Dog Portrait Fundraiser
Paul Atzmiller, a children's book author/illustrator, has come up with a unique way to share his talent and raise money for Shih Tzus & Furbabies.
Mail Paul a GOOD photo of your dog (Photos will not be returned, as he'll keep the photo for advertising). Paul, or a member of his artists group, will draw a 9x12 black & white, pencil drawing of your dog's head. (no cats or humans, please.) Paul will send you the drawing and a STFBR donation form. You write a check in the amount of your choice and send it to STFBR with the form. He does not want to know the amount you've donated or even if you've donated - it's all on the Honor System.
If you are interested in his "Draw Your Dog" offer and helping support Shih Tzus & Furbabies, please send your good quality (head shot) photo to:
Paul E. Atzmiller
10438 Ellison Place
Littleton, CO 80125
Please make note inside the envelope that this will be a donation for the Shih Tzu and Furbaby Rescue. Please include your phone number and return address as well as your email address in case he has any questions. Please be patient as Paul has recently been swamped with requests!
5 Simple Things That Could Save Your Dog's Life
1. Keep Your Dog On A Leash . People don't realize how important this is ... until it is too late. If you are walking your dog by a highway or anywhere that has cars (and that's pretty much everywhere) this may be the #1 way to save your dog's life. It isn't complicated or expensive. All you need is a collar and leash--make sure the collar fits snugly enough that your dog cannot simply slip out of it. Harnesses work great too - especially for small dogs!
2. ID Tags. Yep, this is another simple one. Many lost dogs with no identification are never returned to their owners because the shelter doesn't know who owns them. Don't underestimate the power of a simple ID tag. You can get them at most pet stores - even most pet stores have machines that make ID tags on the spot for only a few bucks. If you move, one of the first things you should do is get an updated tag for your dog.
3. Secure Your Fence. If your yard is fenced in, make sure that the fence is secure. Check the fence for nails or wires that stick out. Make sure that your dog can't squeeze through any holes or gaps, and cannot dig underneath it.
4. Keep all toxins out of reach. This is especially important in your garage, where oil and cleaning solutions pose danger.
5. Keep a current picture of your dog on hand in case he/she goes missing. Posters with photos are much more effective than those without.
